Never Known

I write of love that I have never known
Poetic hearts that yearn for what has passed
But I have never had a love to own
For when they choose my heart is always last
My love affairs have stumbled at first gate
Against all odds is not what I inspire
My lovers much prefer me as a mate
I’ve never set another world on fire
I almost tasted love but it was shy
And when I asked it dare not speak it’s name
If only we’d been strong I don’t know why
But when we failed I shouldered all the blame
So here I am I the poet so alone
Who’s sick of love that I have never known
