Bad Example

You set me up to fail and then

You ask me what I’ve done

Unwritten expectation in air

You take delight when I take flight

And god I want to run

But somehow you are always standing there

And so I try to justify

The accusations made

Your questions punch the stuffing out of me

And forced into a corner where

Your trap was so well laid

Example is what you have made of me

Painted

Alone in pearly grey so Garbo chic

Yet you anticipate my every thought

Insidious how you into me seep

But in your foolish games I won’t be caught

Without a word my star that shines ahead

How black and white has cast you in the shade

Your garish technicolour hues are spread

But man or mouse your plans are not well laid

And you will be the people’s choice no doubt

So populist but not what I prefer

You’re zooming in while I have faded out

So many things you are but not demure

Not jaded my depart from tinsel town

The queen is dead all hail the painted clown

Dirty Money

Hello mister welcome to my city and my land

Want to go to college but my family is poor

Can you help me I will love you anything you want

You can even do that but it costs a little more

Sorry but I think you chose the wrong man for your scheme

You just want my money and you think I’ll pay for love

Let’s just say my eyes are open wide and now won’t shut

Pushy men whose empty hugging feels more like a shove

Understand that you are poor and I must look so rich

Culture difference maybe and I know that I am old

Cash for sex is dirty money I refuse to pay

You are not that pretty boy if I can be so bold

Money boys you’ll never know the ugliness I see

Lusting for the dollar but you never look at me

Discrimination touches each

And every human face

But I believe the world should be

A just and fairer place

With open hearts and open minds

That see the good in each

Religious folk who practice all

The loving that they preach

Equality for everyone

For women and for men

The black and white the gay and straight

So can we start again?

Eliminate this prejudice

That stops us being free

If everyone were equal think

How great this world could be

Out on the Street

The street I do not walk because of you

I’ve found a very different way to home

And if I never face you I can be

Secure along the newer paths I roam

For now I only see you in my dreams

Those nightmares disappear into the dawn

Reality is brighter than the sun

And from my mind the deed it has been torn

Just recently I almost walked your way

I paused and took a different path instead

I wonder if I’ll ever pass your door

Without the drying mouth of fear and dread

Your bitter can not sour what is sweet

For fear cannot beat pride out on the street
