Out on the Street

The street I do not walk because of you

I’ve found a very different way to home

And if I never face you I can be

Secure along the newer paths I roam

For now I only see you in my dreams

Those nightmares disappear into the dawn

Reality is brighter than the sun

And from my mind the deed it has been torn

Just recently I almost walked your way

I paused and took a different path instead

I wonder if I’ll ever pass your door

Without the drying mouth of fear and dread

Your bitter can not sour what is sweet

For fear cannot beat pride out on the street

Words

I'll have a proper gander
At all the lies you scrawl
But when I read I feel like
My back's against the wall
The vitriolic hatred
Your page's dripping blood
But I am not some sheep who's
Just chewing on your cud
My poetry's attrition
This war is thought and word
I rhyme out my frustration
My protest will be heard
Semantics are important
I think therefore I am
My word expresses reason
And this is what I plan
I will not stand aside when
This bigotry and fear
Are used to stop the right to
Be questioning or queer
Pan or Intersexual
Two spirited or A
This is not the seventies
We're now much more than gay
I may just be poet
I'm not a man of deed
But sometimes thought and words are
Exactly what you need
So LGB and T folk
Please rally to the call
Embrace the disenfranchised
Equality for all

Tables and Benches

Sleeping on a bench
He is just a child
Growing up alone
Growing to be wild
When he is a man
Haunted by his youth
Look him in the eyes
Tell the bitter truth
Saw but did not act
Knew but did not care
Passed him sleeping rough
Had but did not share
Life is not a game
Life is so unfair
Tables could be turned
What if you were there

Bread is Buttered

I wanted something carnal but you went and raised the tone
Decided we should wait a little while
And all my urges now suppressed beneath your weighty tome
Engagement rules are very much your style
The kiss me quick and see you later tell me what's your name
Is not what you would really like to do
I pop my cork for cheap and cheerful plonker is my game
But you are used to grander types of cru
So how's your father oh of course to you he his pa-pa
And you're the darling apple of his eye
But I know where me bread is buttered not so la de dah
Your upper crust's not on my humble pie
So princess, time has come for me to do one out of here
I thank you for the kiss upon me cheek
But I am more a charmer than a princely lord or peer
This cinderfella's not the man you seek
The rich girl with her grace and favour poor man's out the door
And all is fair in wars of love and class
The passion that I offered left you wanting so much more
Your golden boy was just a load of brass

The Farm

And blowing in the wind is where the answer's meant to be
But I was blown to here and back by what you said to me
The wind of change was Mary Poppins landing in the street
So give the starving tuppence if you have enough to eat
The question is our future and it's dangling by a thread
But Damocles has gone and you're the thing I left unsaid
The double hedging bet was lost and all we have at stake
Are bleeding hearts the Queen of Tarts will liberally bake
How many roads I walked with you yet never at your side
The wolf who blew my mind but somehow left it all implied
I'm on the road to nowhere but the making sense has stopped
Cause Maggie's farm's reality when rabbit holes are dropped
Some people never see the ocean others wash ashore
Imagine all the people then consider them no more

Samaritan

Never chosen
Always last
Uninvited
Never asked
Made me bitter
You’re so sweet
Got the whole world
At your feet
Never smiling
Wear a frown
You ascend as
I fall down
Wish that I was
Light and gay
Bruised and battered
Born this way
See you staring
Clouded eyes
Hand of friendship
Help me rise
Different people
Human kind
Help your neighbour
Love is blind
I was chosen
Only one
Turned my face to
See the sun
