The Autism Poems

“Special”

Uninvertedly hurt
Your supercilious commas
Won’t punctuate my journey
Can’t flatten my ire
With imposing syntax
So stop apostrophising
For I am the poet autist
Atypically ravelling
Linguistic contention
Don’t moss my stones
Semantic avalanches
Parenthesis advisory
Sticker your full stop
Up your unrequired semi colon
Your comprehension
Is not my destination

Syndrome

They took eccentricity
The quintessential me
And they medicalised
And denormalised
Labelled other
Aspergeration
So not for me the mundane
An alternate terrain
Kaleidoscopic view
Life’s disordered hue
Syndrome lover
Mind’s recreation

Square Peg

If you don’t fit,
Quit.
There’s not a jury that wouldn’t acquit.
It’s bullshit,
Don’t drown in it.
Take a bit
Of time and admit
You’re a misfit.
Then enjoy it:
The square peg remit.

Hypothetical Salve

What if I were the normal
You’d be exception
What if this were the right way
You’d know rejection
I hope I would be caring
Give you protection
Without true loving kindness
Where is salvation
